Fashion Flirting with Relinquishing Ownership

It has been made official.  My hair no longer belongs to me.  I’ve pledged it to my brother’s very first girlfriend from high school.

Earrings: Handmade by a friend
Dress: Twisted Dress from lululemon athletica
Ruffled Sweater/Wrap/Scarf/Vest Thing: Anthropologie
Bangle: Thrifted
Shoes: Spring

Day three of the 7-Day Dress Challenge, I am wearing the dress with the grey side out, and the outer layer twisted a little bit so that the right strap can be pulled up and worn as a halter neck, with the left strap tucked between the inner and the outer layer.  It kind of looks like I’m wearing a white racerback under the grey dress, and not in the best way.  I’m not fully convinced by this look – it might have something to do with the fact that in order to wear it like this the side seam runs down the front of the dress.

This is one of the other ways that you can wear the ruffle sweater/wrap/vest/scarf thing from Anthropologie. I feel less confined when I wear it open like this.  On top of that, it is a bit cooler to wear open, so I can wear it for longer in the August humidity and heat.

My hair stylist is amazing.  She has been cutting my hair since I was seven.  She is also my brother’s BFF and first girlfriend and was the best woman at his wedding to my sister-in-law.  She has never given me a bad haircut.

That’s 21 years of good hair, in case you were wondering.

The last time I had my hair cut was eight months ago, because Laura went on mat leave, and I trust her… And only her.  Today, when I sat down in her chair, I mentioned casually that I was completely comfortable letting her own my hair for the next seven months or so until the Winnipeg hair competition, that I would be her model.  We’ve been talking about this for years but it has never been the right time.  We’re finally going to do it.  Laura is going to groom my hair so that it is exactly the way she wants it to be for the hair show, and then we’re (OK, I’m going to model, and SHE’S going to be in the competition… I’ll just sit there) going to be in the up-do competition.

I can’t WAIT.  And, it is really nice to let someone else completely take over in terms of hair styling.  I don’t like needing to tell people how I want my hair styled.  I just like my hair to be styled and to look nice.

Is that too much to ask for?
